Blues Criteria

Criteria for achieving a Full Blue

For an Oxford University woman to be considered for the award of a Full Blue for Dancesport she must achieve the following:

1. She must compete for the OUDC Varsity A-Team against Cambridge.
2. She must make the quarter finals of the Team Match competition at the IVDA Nationals competition (“IVDC”).
3. She must finish in the top 3 in her team dance in the IVDC team match competition.
4. She must show true team commitment - she must train consistently hard and have a positive attitude toward her own and others training.

For an Oxford University man to be considered for the award of a discretionary Full Blue for Dancesport he must achieve the following:

1. He must compete for the OUDC Varsity A-Team against Cambridge.
2. He must make the quarter finals of the Team Match competition at the IVDA Nationals competition (“IVDC”).
3. He must finish in the top 3 in his team dance in the IVDC team match competition.
4. He must compete in an external 'Pre-champ' competition and place in the top half of the final.
5. He must show true team commitment - he must train consistently hard and have a positive attitude toward his own and others training.

It is important to note that these are minimum requirements for a man/woman to be considered for a Full Blue. Other factors will be taken into account including:

1. Opens results, including "Advanced-Four-Dance" competetitions, as this shows individuals abilities across the whole range of dances and not just the one team dance.
2. Comparison between individuals.

Our coaches play a major role in the selection and training of the Team. For this reason the Director of Coaching is normally consulted by the Captain prior to any Full Blue awards being made.

People awarded a Full or Half Blue award are entitled to purchase Full and Half Blue clothing. This includes jumpers, scarves and blazers, which can be purchased from "Walters and Co." on Turl Street. Many colleges also have grants for members who have been awarded a Blue.

Other Awards

• Half Blues are awarded to those men and women who compete for the OUDC Varsity A-Team against Cambridge and who make the quarter finals of the team match competition at the IVDA Nationals competition (“IVDC”).
• First Team Colours can be awarded to women (not men) on the Varsity A-Team, who have not danced in IVDA.
• Second Team Colours can be awarded to women (not men) on the Varsity B-Team.
