IVDC (The Nationals)
- 12th March (Hilary)
Held at the infamous Blackpool Winter Gardens, host venue to the annual British Open, the Nationals took place on Saturday 12th March. 27 universities had entered the competition representing the entirety of the university dancesport circuit. Cambridge A and Bristol A had been tipped as the closest rivals to the Oxford A Team, looking to defend their title.

Oxford saw great success throughout the day with Oxford represented in every single final. In the Novice Standard Paul Brand & Alison Gray placed 3rd, Henry Newman & Joss Paulley placed 4th and Simon Edkins & Parvy Vis Nathan placed 5th. The Intermediate final also consisted of half Oxford couples, Alex Hobbs & Karen Zieger (2nd), Ozzi Uhiara & Ailsa Longmuir (3rd) and Joe Coulson & Sarah McGinley (5th). Advanced Standard saw yet another astounding victory for Oxford with all 6 couples in the semi-final and star couple Nick Faull & Ju Min Wong as National Advanced Standard Champions and Sugata Kaviraj & Cécile Défossé placing 4th.
In the Latin section, again the Blues shined through. Sahaj Kothari & Mila Gorokhovich placed 4th in the Novice. The Intermediate competition had three Oxford couples in the final, Sugata Kaviraj & Cécile Défossé (6th), Ian Watson & Camilla Sen (5th) and Kevin Skelton & Alice Pocklington (3rd). In the Advanced - possibly the most highly contested of events - Oxford had 4 couples in the semi-final with Alex Hobbs & Marianna Ofosu making the final amongst extremely strong open circuit couples from other universities.
Robin Schlinkert & Claire Wrathmell won the coveted "Most Promising Couple" award.
The Beginners' Team had couples in the final of every dance, most notably the Standard discipline with the Waltz final containing 3 couples.
The Team Match
The entire Oxford Blues Team made the semi-final of the Team Match (the top 12 teams in the country). The D Team improved on the previous year's performance placing 12th and the C Team only just missed the final placing 7th.
The Oxford B-Team had an astounding day beating Imperial A, Cambridge A & Cambridge B Teams placing 3rd in the Team Match. The Oxford A Team could not quite grab the 1st place by only one point to Bristol's A Team, however the entire team danced exceptionally and the results were impressive. As a consequence of the day's performances, Oxford won the B, C & D Team trophies and consequently won the overall IVDC Champions trophy.
The IVDA Committee threw away the Team Match results by accident so a breakdown can never be made available.
SUDC (Southern Nationals)
- 27th Feb. (Hilary)
SUDC saw a large number of amazing dancers returning to the Uni Circuit. The standard of the both the Advanced Latin and Advanced Ballroom impressed everyone. This Sunday was the toughest day for the Oxford Team with few couples seeing good results, however those who did, shined through. Nick & Ju Min beat the incumbent ballroom couple from Cambridge, Paul & Vesna, for the first time in Advanced Ballroom and defending Quickstep Champions, Ian & Cecile took 1st & 2nd place in the Team Quickstep Final. The best Team results of the day came from the Oxford C Team who placed 6th tying with Imperial's A-Team - an astounding performance.
The Beginners' Team were dominant in the Semi-finals yet found it difficult to get couples into the finals. However the Beginners' Quickstep final saw 3 Oxford Couples placing well.
