Time to dance: Bachata and West Coast Swing 🥳💃🕺

OLD FIRE STATION, 40 George St, Oxford OX1 2AQ

In this mixed-level class, designed for both beginners and advanced dancers, the focus is on enhancing your social dancing skills. Rather than teaching set routines that cannot be led, the goal is to equip you with techniques and insights that will improve your ability to dance socially in any setting. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your moves, this class aims to make you a more confident and versatile dancer.

The first fifteen minutes are spent practising fundamentals, turns, spins, progressive syncopated steps, box step and solo routines.

Thirty-five minutes devoted to couple dancing: learning a stylish leadable routine that you can use on the dance floor, with an emphasis on leading and following techniques.

Last ten minutes are dedicated to social dancing to put what you’ve learned into practise, as well as Q&A

Wow, what an amazing weekend. We want to wish a massive congratulations to all our Oxford dancers for a very successful IVDC!

Firstly, all 5 Oxford teams made it into division 1– even the beginner teams! This is a huge achievement and everyone should be very proud. 🕺🏻💃

Secondly… Oxford A WON THE TEAM MATCH!!! This means that we officially have the strongest Dancesport team in GREAT BRITAIN 🇬🇧 — and a very happy Bruce!! Well done to our beautiful dancers who were part of this, you continue to amaze us 💗

We want to say a massive congratulations to our exceptional dancer, Anna Duncan, for receiving a prestigious Vincent’s Award 🏆✨

Vincent’s awards are only given to a select few students across Oxford University, who have demonstrated an excellent level of sporting and academic achievement, as well as a dedication to inspiring those around them. Receiving one is no mean feat, but we couldn’t imagine a more deserving winner than our Anna, and we couldn’t be prouder ♥️

Her individual achievements are unmatched, and ever since her first year she has been an integral part of the A team. She has won every team match event for Oxford at every national championships since 2019! Many advanced dancers specialise in either Ballroom or Latin, and Anna’s refusal to do so is a testament to the high standards she sets herself!

Anna is a natural leader and a supportive teammate, and many of us look up to her for guidance, motivation and help with routines! We’re incredibly lucky to have you Anna - and we cannot wait to see what you get up to next 🥰💃

Come along to Kirby house this Sunday evening for a night of SOCIAL DANCING, DRINKS AND SNACKS 🕺🏾🍫🍭🍸🍹

We have been cultivating a special spooky playlist 👻 and themed drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) 🥂and snacks 🍪 so even come just for that! (Rumour has it there are 150 ghostly jelly shots in the making …)

🕷️ COSTUMES WARMLY ENCOURAGED 🎃

The social is open to ALL club members— especially the lovely people who come to the public classes! 💃

Even if you only know a box step and some chacha basics, come along to meet other class attendees and boogie free from Bruce’s criticism 🤩

We will be encouraging partner swapping and NO COMPETITIVE ROUTINES, so everyone feels welcome and can have some fun 🪩
